7.3 Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Same Sensor as Icp
The EBPS (exhaust back pressure sensor) is used to monitor exhaust back pressure in cold weather during operation of the exhaust back pressure valve. The EBP sensor is located in a confined space between the serpentine belt and high pressure oil pump (front of engine).
The exhaust backpressure valve is a simple device designed to reduce the time required for an engine to reach operating temperature by restricting exhaust flow and essentially simulating a load on the engine.
Subsequently, question is, where is the exhaust pressure sensor located? The exhaust pressure sensor is present in the exhaust manifold outlet of the exhaust system.
Consequently, what is EBP on a diesel?
The EBP - 7.3 exhaust back pressure sensor - measures your diesel's exhaust back pressure, especially in cold weather. Seems self explanatory, but that allows the PCM - powertrain control module - to better manage 7.3 MPG and your 7.3 Powerstroke diesel engine's overall performance.
Where is the exhaust back pressure sensor?
7.3L Power Stroke Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor The EBPS on the 7.3L Power Stroke is located near the front of the engine, just in front of the high pressure oil pump. You'll need to remove the plastic engine cover in order to gain access.

What does the exhaust back pressure valve do?
Engine exhaust back pressure is defined as the exhaust gas pressure that is produced by the engine to overcome the hydraulic resistance of the exhaust system in order to discharge the gases into the atmosphere.

How can I get better gas mileage out of my 7.3 diesel?
How to Improve Ford 7.3 Fuel Mileage
- Lower the wind resistance of your Ford truck.
- Replace the air filter in your Ford truck with the new and improved ones, and keep it clean.
- Install a diesel performance module or chip in your Ford truck.
- Service your truck on a regular basis.
- Lighten your truck has much as possible.

How do you check exhaust back pressure sensor?
To measure exhaust backpressure, you need a pressure gauge with a scale that reads zero to 15 psi, or zero to 100 kPa or higher (note: 1 psi equals 6.89 kPa, and 1 kPa equals 0.145 psi). If you don't have a low pressure gauge, you can buy a basic exhaust backpressure test kit for around $60.

How do I know if my ICP sensor is bad?
The worst symptom of a bad, i.e. failed, ICP sensor on your 7.3 is that your engine just won't start at all.
7.3 ICP Sensor Symptoms
- Rough or lugging idling.
- Surging.
- Missing.
- Bucking.
- Stalling, especially at a full stop.

Can you drive with ICP sensor unplugged?
Second, if the engine is in good shape with no problems, it will idle perfectly fine with the ICP sensor unplugged. The key to unplugging the ICP sensor as a test is to see if the engine runs better with it unplugged. If it runs worse, or if there's no change, then leave the ICP sensor alone.

Can you clean ICP sensor?
Yes, the ICP sensor is on the head, no real special tools needed, But If your refering to oil on the the IPR plug, it and the inside can get oily, if it's giving you problems it can be cleaned, and maybe work great again. It is definitely worth a try first.

Does an ICP sensor cause no start?
It should be mentioned that a bad ICP sensor cannot prevent the engine from starting. Diagnosing the vehicles LPOil system may be best left to a professional shop, or someone with a high level of experience diagnosing & repairing the 6.0L engine.

What does a ICP sensor do?
An injection control pressure sensor, or an ICP sensor, is part of the engine. The sensor provides information about the pressure to provide the vehicle with appropriate feedback on the appropriate amount of fuel delivery based on the current driving conditions.

Why is my 7.3 surging?
The surging is probably the valve "hunting" for the proper position with screwy inputs, or a problem with the solenoid that controls the oil flow to the valve actuator. Could be caused by a plugged EBP sensor tube or a bad EBP sensor.

What is CPS on Ford diesel?
It's short for Camshaft Position Sensor. Ford calls it a Synchronizer or CMP sensor. It does this by counting revolutions of the camshaft, and relaying that info back to the computer that all is well, keeps dumping in fuel! When the CPS goes bad, the computer thinks there is a problem and basically shuts the truck off.
